Midwest Chapter hosts 5th annual Midwest Student Leadership Conference

April 12, 2013 – The Midwest Chapter hosted the fifth annual Ascend Midwest Student Leadership Conference, held in Chicago this past April. The theme of this year’s conference was "Innovating YOU: Your Own Uniqueness”. Chapter President Julie Figueras, Vice Presidents of Student Affairs Bernard Perales and Paul Lee, and student board members from Indiana University – Bloomington led the effort in planning and hosting the event.
More than 130 attendees gathered in what was the largest gathering of the chapter’s student membership to date. Attendees were represented from a number of surrounding universities, including:
The conference showcased a number of speakers and panellists including Ernst & Young Partner John Pitz, Seasoned Career Coach Gregg Oshita, Author of Mulberry Child: A memoir of China Jian Ping, and Ascend National Vice President of External Affairs, Wes Hom. Students spent the day learning about various topics related to persuasion skills, situation management, emotional intelligence, and personal branding.

The Midwest Chapter also hosted its second annual case competition at the conference. The Indiana University team came in first place, defending their case competition win from the 2012 Ascend National Convention. Northern Illinois University finished in a close second place.
