<title>Ascend GW Chapter Designation as Certifying Organization for the President&apos;s Volunteer Service Award</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>The Ascend Greater Washington Chapter is proud to announce that it has been designated as a certifying organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA). One of our goals this year was finding new ways to increase membership benefits and to recognize our members’ achievements. We hope that the Ascend GW Chapter’s participation in the PVSA program will do the following:</p>
<ul>
    <li>Afford us the opportunity to recognize member’s volunteer work</li>
    <li>Allow members to obtain credit for volunteer hours contributed on a yearly basis for Ascend activities</li>
    <li>Incentivize members to continue serving their community</li>
</ul>
<p>In other words, we want to recognize you, our members, for the countless volunteer hours that you have contributed to our organization in support of Ascend’s mission. Whether you are participating as a volunteer in a workshop to help other members and students, mentoring and coaching others, or just showing up to help at a community outreach event, it all counts. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Please consider taking advantage of this program and we highly encourage you to participate and submit your application at the end of every year to qualify for your award. As a paying member, if you log in at least 100 hours of volunteer hours for Ascend within a calendar year, we will recognize you at the Bronze level.</span> Just register your account, notify us of your participation, and complete all documentation of volunteer hours by 31 December of each year starting in 2015. <strong>Teaming with the White House</strong><br>
The President's Volunteer Service Awards is a national program recognizing Americans who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service. The Award was established in 2003 to give Presidential recognition to individuals, families, and groups who meet requirements for volunteer service, measured by the number of service hours performed over twelve months. This Award program is supported by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a small independent government agency.<br>
<br>
To be eligible, you must submit a record of your annual volunteer service hours to Ascend GW Chapter. You can easily track your hours by registering an individual account through the PVSA website, <a href="http://www.presidentialserviceawards.gov">www.presidentialserviceawards.gov</a>. We will verify the record and distribute any subsequent awards to you. <b>Please note that the Ascend GW Chapter ROS CODE is “OUR-4077”.</b><br>

<strong>How Can I Earn the Award?</strong><br>
While almost all volunteer service contributes to eligibility for the Award, you are encouraged to participate in Ascend GW Chapter volunteer activities. Activities must be unpaid and may not include any court-ordered community service. Remember you may include other volunteer hours from other certified organizations to get this award. The awards are offered in multiple levels and are designed to recognize each milestone of your service achievement. Levels include bronze, silver, gold and the highest honor, the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for those who contribute more than 4,000 hours of service in their lifetime.<br>

<strong>To earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award, the following criteria must be met:</strong></p>

<p >Your service hours can be accumulated through work on a variety of projects throughout a 12 month period. Members can qualify for a new Award every 12 months.<br>

<strong>What Kind of Recognition Will I Receive?</strong><br>
Ascend GW Chapter Award recipients will receive a personalized certificate of achievement, a congratulatory letter from the President, and an official President’s Award pin. Ascend GW Chapter may publicize the list of winners in our newsletter for those have demonstrated their commitment to volunteer service.<br>

<strong>So, How Do I Sign Up?</strong><br>
To get started, go to <a href="http://www.presidentialserviceawards.gov">www.presidentialserviceawards.gov</a> and click on the navigation to “Track Your Hours”. After completing the initial registration page where you create a user name and password, you will be taken to your volunteer home page. On this page, it is critical that you click on the navigation tab that states “Your Profile” and complete the profile form. Where it asks for “<strong>Record of Service Key/ROS-Key</strong>”, you should enter “<strong>OUR-4077</strong>”. This is the key that allows the Ascend GW Chapter to track your volunteer hours as a certifying organization and issue the Award. In order to receive credit for your volunteer hours under this program, you must establish this account with the ROS-Key and log your service under the “My Service” navigation tab.<br>
