Ascend Houston had a very eventful and successful fourth quarter to cap off a great 2010 year. In October, Ascend hosted its second annual flagship event - Inspiring Across Generations. The 2010 topic was "Mentorship- Creating Bridges toward Excellence”. Keynote speakers Lisa Ong from PwC and Chow Yu from Waste Management provided motivation and words of wisdom to students and professionals of all levels trying to enhance their careers.

In November, ASCEND Houston hosted its annual scholarship luncheon at Kim Son. In 2010, ASCEND awarded two $2,000 scholarships to two deserving students from UH and HBU. Ascend has also reached out to its student members by organizing events such as mock interviews , mentorship events, and a back to school ice cream social. Ascend has also been thankful for its success in the 2010 holiday season and has given back to the community. Also in November, Ascend volunteered at Reagan High School to help conduct a math tournament for local students.

In an effort to recognize top students within the Greater Houston Area, the Houston Chapter of Ascend has teamed up with the Houston Society of CPAs ("HSCPA") to reward students pursuing studies in accountancy, taxation, and finance with scholarships and exposure to local Houston accounting firms. 


The Houston Chapter of ASCEND and the Houston CPA Society will underwrite two $2,000 scholarships for college undergraduate and graduate students studying finance, accounting, or business related studies. The scholarship will be presented at the ASCEND Scholarship luncheon on November 5th, 2010. Recipients are required to attend the luncheon, barring an emergency.
